5 Health Benefits of Drinking Coffee

Coffee may be described by some as a miracle in a cup. People who drink coffee all drink it for the same reasons. Most people can hardly begin their day without a steaming hot cup of coffee. The caffeine in coffee energizes and really helps get the heart pumping. The caffeine in coffee can be almost addictive. Most coffee drinkers drink more than one cup of coffee per day, especially those who work late nights.

Coffee not only tastes delicious, but it’s filled with antioxidants. Another benefit of drinking coffee is that it keeps you alert, and it affects your mood in a positive way. There are also health benefits to drinking coffee:

1. Protection against cirrhosis of the liver

The liver is such an important organ of the body and is responsible for many different functions. Studies have proven that people who drink two or more cups of coffee per day cut their chances of getting liver disease by 65%. When coffee is consumed it produces a chemical called paraxanthine, which helps to slow the growth of scar tissue, and helps to fight against cirrhosis, hep C, fatty liver disease and liver cancer.

2. Lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes

Diabetes affects the blood glucose levels. Too much glucose in the blood can cause many health problems and may even lead to death. Studies have proven that people who drink more than one cup of coffee per day reduced their chances of developing type 2 diabetes by 67%.

Alzheimer’s disease is an advanced form of dementia. This illness usually affects people 65 years and older. While there is no cure for this disease there are important things that can be done that may prevent it like exercising, eating, nutritious foods and drinking coffee. It is believed that drinking coffee can slow the progression of this disease or prevent it. A chemical called phenylindanes is formed in coffee while it is brewing. Researchers have found that phenylindanes stop the production of proteins that cause alzheimers and other brain diseases.

It is believed that coffee helps in preventing Parkinson’s disease. Coffee contains something called EHT, this chemical is found in the coating of the coffee bean. EHT is proven to have neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies linking coffee with lowering the risk of Parkinson’s disease began in the 1970s. Many studies have been done since then and have shown that men benefit more than women from drinking coffee, and that coffee drinkers reduce their risk of developing parkinson’s by more than 60%.
